the difference is the rpms that you are turning and the ratio of how many times the drive shaft turns to make the wheel spin one whole revolution. 4.10 gears run your rpsm higher and is generally used for trucks that tow a lot it isn't good on gas mileage at all. 3.73 is normal everyday trucks that don't haul every single day. you can tow with 3.73 gear and you wont have a problem at all and you get pretty decent gas mileage too

What is the difference between 'drive' and third gear?

Some automatic transmissions have 4, 5 or even 6 gears. "Drive" just means the transmission gets to pick whichever gear is appropriate; If your shifter has a "3rd gear" selection, it limits the transmission to pick from gears 1, 2 or 3. It can be used to accelerate uphill better, or when towing a trailer.

What is the difference between spur gears and other gears?

Spur gears are cut with straight teeth. They can only transmit rotation between parallel shafts, and are relatively economical. Bevel gears have teeth cut on an angle. They transmit rotation between non-parallel shafts. Helical gears have curved teeth. They are generally quieter than spur gears, but are generally more difficult to make and more expensive.
