What is the difference between General Discussion and Just Chatting in the Community Forum?

The General Discussion forum is solely for discussion purposes, such as asking for opinions on certain subjects. The Just Chatting forum contains forum threads that are not as specific to a singular subject, hence are not discussion topics.

Does wiki answer have a chartroom to talk about certain topics?
There is a discussion board for each question to discuss each question and your opinions on the question, and there is the 'Just Chatting' and 'General Discussion' forums in the Community Forum. Those are the only places where things can be discussed, but none of those places can or should be used like a chatroom.
Why are you not able to make a new post in the Community Forum general discussion?
The ability for contributiors to make threads in the General Discussion area of the Community Forum was removed previously. You can now post on existing topics or ask a Supervisor to create a thread for you.
Why are you unable to post a new topic in the Community Forum?
You may not be able to post a topic if you are an unregistered user. If you are a registered user, you cannot post a topic in the Just Chatting and General Discussion sections for two reasons. This is to reduce nonsense posts and spamming of the community, which has become very prevalent lately in the community forum. To post a new topic there, just contact a supervisor to help you set it up.
How do you post a topic in the Community Forum?
Creating a topic in the Community ForumTo create a new topic, simply click on the "New Topic" button in the top left-hand corner of the topics. Click on that to start a topic. Make sure you include the title and enough information to reply/answer the post. The 2 exceptions are the forums called "General Discussion" and "Just Chatting."'General Discussion' and 'Just Chatting'Users cannot start a new topic in these two forums. If you would like a new topic to be created, you can message a Supervisor and he/she will create it for you.(See the Related question for more information.)
