What is the difference between HP Pavilion and HP Compaq desk top computers?

HP and Compaq were both independent computer sellers until 2001 when they merged. Computers are still made under both names, the leading lines being HP's Pavilion and Compaq's Presario. The differences between the different lines tend to be mostly cosmetic, although the difference between individual models can be substantial.
It is also noted that Compaq computers tend to be made with lesser-quality parts, making the costs more inexpensive, affordable and economic than the HP computers.
