A PA is a physician's assistant, while an MD is a medical doctor. The PA can do many of the same things that the MD does, with the exception of prescribing certain medications and performing surgical procedures.

A PA is a Physician Assistant, requiring 4 years of college and then a specialized training program lastin anywhere from 3-4 years. An MD is a Medical Doctor, who has 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and at least 3-4 years of residency training in a particular specialty.
