Robbery - To take property from (a person) illegally by using or threatening to use violence or force.

Thief - a person who steals, esp. secretly or without open force.

Robbers use violence as a method of getting what they want, while a thief usually obtains their loot through stealthy actions.

Im pretty sure that burglary is breaking into a house and stealing....theft is just stealing wherever someone sees fit to steel without breaking in

In a burglary, a theft does not need to take place. burglary is defined as the act of unlawfully entering a habitable structure with the intent to commit a theft or felony. so, some one who breaks into a house with the intent to commit aggravated assault, and steals nothing, is guilty of burglary. and theft is the acquisition of property by deception or failure to make a proper attempt to return lost or misplaced property.

Burglary is the act of stealing property, in the form of physical objects (jewelry is always a favorite), generally from a home or a store. It is not the same thing as robbery, which is stealing from a person. Burglars try to steal from an empty building, while everyone is away. Larcey is a broader category of cime, it means some kind of deception or fraud for criminal purposes. You might solicit donations for a fake charity. You might sell a product through the mail, which you then never deliver. The famous internet scheme of telling people that they have won money or will receive a lot of money for some strange reason (we need to get the money out of the country, or something like that) but first they have to pay taxes, or an administrative fee or something like that, is a form of larceny.

Burglary is the act of breaking into, or simply walking into, the property or conveyance (a vehicle, for example) of another person, for the purpose of committing another crime, most commonly, theft. The victim does not have to be located at the scene of the crime for this to occur. Robbery, on the other hand, is theft by force, in the form of demanding from the other person goods, money, etc. with the threat of violence. The degree of robbery can range from simple robbery - still a felony - where no weapon was used, to armed robbery.
