Epiphone is to Gibson like Adult Swim is to Cartoon network. Gibson is Epiphone's parent company. Gibson runs Epiphone.

Epiphone make toned-down versions of Gibson Guitars that are substantially cheaper and still have excelent quality. If you're looking to buy a Gibson but don't have a few grand to spend, buy an Epiphone and you will be very happy. Most people can't even tell the difference.

Epiphone is the same thing as Gibson, but epiphone has the right to make the same guitars as Gibson, but just for smaller prices.

It depends on what type of music you are playing, and the style and feel of the guitar/bass. Fender is most commonly used for blues, and less so for rock. Gibson is most famously used for rock songs, and is a favorite usually for "shredding" solos.

both are very good...its all preference ================== Fender guitars usually have single-coil pickups, are made of harder woods like ash and alder, have a 25.5" scale length, and bolt-on necks. Gibson guitars are usually equipped with humbuckers, are made of softer woods like korina or mahogany, have a 24.75" scale length, and set (glued) necks. Gibsons also tend to have tilted headstocks, while Fenders use "string trees" to create a steeper break angle over the nut. The single-coil pickups and harder woods on Fenders lead to a more steely, bright sound with short sustain. Gibson guitars tend to sound warmer, with longer sustain. The shorter scale on Gibsons leads to easier bending of the strings, and the set necks also increase resonance -- although maintenance is much more difficult than bolt-on necks. Fenders are associated with clean, cutting sounds, Gibsons more with warmer, bassier sounds. There are exceptions to the templates above. The Fender Jaguar is only 24" long; the Fender Telecaster Deluxe features humbuckers. The Gibson Melody Maker and Les Paul Junior feature single-coil P-90 pickups. Gibson is a much older company whose roots extend into the 1800s; Fender only began in the mid-20th Century. Fender has a much stronger market share and better reputation in bass guitars and amplifiers. Gibson is much stronger than Fender in acoustic guitars. Gibsons also tend to rise in value over time more than Fenders.

I hope I'm right, but the main difference is the Fender Stratocaster has three pick-ups with the traditional slanted third pick-up, and the Telecaster has two. They might has slight variances in tone due to the extra pick-up. Generally speaking, a Telecaster will have a sharper, crisper sound than a Stratocaster.

I honestly like Gibson a lot more. Fenders aren't bad but they're not for every genre of playing. They both have a distinct sound. Yngwie Malmsteen used Fenders a lot. So did Jimi Hendrix. James Hetfield had a 1958 Gibson Explorer. That also reminds me, Fenders usually have a general look. Gibson guitars are diverse and have way more styles.
