Newts are a group of salamanders belonging to the family Salamandridae. (All newts are salamanders, but not all salamanders are newts) In North America there are two genus of newts, the Eastern newts and the Western newts.

frog will breathe in water and land but salamander will breathe only on land.

And they look nothing alike. Salamanders have tail, frogs don't.

Actually, salamanders are amphibians too, so like frogs, they can breathe in water in addition to breathing on land. Salamanders are just amphibians that retain their tail as an adult. Their tongues are less mobile than frogs, some aquatic species of salamanders have no muscle in their tongue at all. Also, tadpoles of frogs have no teeth, but larval salamanders do, this is because salamanders use their teeth to eat while most frogs only use them to hold prey in place. Some adult frogs might not have teeth, or they might only have the top row.

Many differences, the first and most obvious would be that snakes are reptiles and salamanders are amphibians. Other differences are that snakes are legless and scaly while salamanders have legs and are smooth-skinned and slimy.

Salamanders don't have the same types of legs as the frog. The frog's legs can jump, the salamanders cannot. Also, young frogs are tadpoles, not so much the salamander.

Salamanders are the only group with a fully developed tail. All frogs lack a tail without exception. The frogs do develop a tail in the larval stage but it gets lost after metamorfosis. There is a third group of amfibians: the Gymnophiona or caecilians . These generally have a shorter tail, soms species lach a tail. All caecilians are worm-like wether they have a tal or not. The presence of a tail in this group is only visible on the underside. In tailless species, the cloaca is at the end of the body, in tailcarrying species it is more to the middle.
