Neutral is vital to complete the cicuit. Ground is vital to carry the current to earth during a malfuntion of the appliance using power to drive it, should the current come in contact with the frame or outer covering of the appliance and endangering the users life.

∙ 15y agoA floated neutral is isolated from ground. A grounded neutral is, well, grounded. 99% of neutrals are (or should be) grounded. Floated neutrals are only used in special circumstances, and then only with a properly engineered design.

Neutral is closeing path of the circuit. It is one type of earth connection done in the side of distribution transformer.
GROUNDING:
Grounding is nothing but earthing. It is used to protect machines and operators from unwanted shocks, that is the reason all equipment makes the earth connection. When current passes through the grounding something is wrong. Usually the fuse will blow or the circuit breaker trip when this happens so that no further damage or harm will result.
In some electrical systems the Neutral and Ground are connected at the fuse box, In other countries (Switzerland and Norway for example) the Ground and Neutral conductors are separated all the way to the transformer.
In three phase star connected winding a neutral is always present there. that neutral is called as neutral. and when that neutral is grounded then that concept is known as neutral grounding or earthing.
Earthing is the process of making the current way to ground for the safety of operation. Neutral is the point which is available in the star connected system. At the neutral, voltage is zero.
