llike a feeder line- there is a big one that works fast inter-state ( in Europe) Traffic but also has overwater routes. a Link canal is a feeder line on the canal level- say shufflling coal or oil barges from one part of the country to another. The Feeder Lines ( in transportation) often operate a night and show a very good profit on short hauls- such as, are you listening- C-yards to Central- oops we don"t lilke to talk about that connection.= but that"s an example. One company ties up most of the feeder lines which are seemingly exempt from anti-trust laws, well, that"s Europe.
