What is the difference between a miniature horse and a pony?

This is the best example I can think of to explain the difference. a pony is like a person that may be considered short and small of frame (petite) where as a miniature horse is like a person with dwarfism...a mutation of genes stunting growth. ( although I dont believe a horse can give birth to a miniature horse.)

Compared to horses, ponies often exhibit thicker manes, tails and overall coat, as well as proportionally shorter legs, wider barrels, heavier bone, thicker necks, and shorter heads with broader foreheads.Wiki User

∙ 14y agoMiniatures are measured in inches and generally don't succeed 36" in height. Ponies are measured in hands, with each hand being equal to four inches or ten centimetres. Ponies are generally stocky and sturdy in build, with thick legs and lots of feather/bushy manes and tails. Minis are a bit more elegant, like tiny Thoroughbreds, their legs are slender.
