What is the difference between a trade school and a college?

The military is a type of trade school (except for the part where you sign your life away for the agreed amount of time). It can be a positive experience if you qualify. Air Force and Navy are better choices as the Army and Marines are often deployed. Also, look up trade schools in your phone book. There are many which offer to teach you skills for the work force. Try "technical school" or "trade school." Type the same information into the Google search engine plus your city and state, you should get plenty of trade school websites which can tell you alot about the classes they offer. Good luck!

Trade schools teach specific skills such as electronics, auto mechanics, etc. The qualifications for teaching in a trade school is usually just having a lot of experience. The total class time is usually less than two years, with many being 9 months to one year. They do not teach the arts, and not much science outside of what applies directly to the particular field you want to study.

If you notice in many trade school advertisments, DeVry being one of the biggest and calling itself a University, they tell you that at least some of the classes you take with them will not be accepted by a regular college or university.

A trade school is one that prepares the student for a specific job. In the past, learning a trade meant apprenticing with a master. Mechanics and carpenters are two that are very common. Beautician schools is another type. Truck driving is still another. Culinary, diesel mechanic, barber, electricians, medical assistant, etc.
