Aeronautics doesn't necessarily involve the study of spacecraft (but could), whereas astronautical engineering, by definition, involves the study of spacecraft and related objects in space - above the stratosphere.

Astronautical engineers work closely with any aircraft that is outside of the atmosphere of the earth. The only way to choose between the two is personal preference. Though they may be very similar jobs, there are many more chances of getting a career in aeronautical engineering. A degree in aerospace engineering obviously requires class work. Someone interested in this field must graduate high school with experience in mathematical programs. You must have taken courses in algebra, geometry, calculus, English, and technology or computers. One way to prove that you are dedicated to this degree is by entering a science fair. Then you must select a college or university to attend. Since each school has different requirements for admission, you must look at the school you plan on going to. Then, just pay your tuition and you can get started on the path to a career in aerospace engineering. This degree program is located at a large variety of institutions around the country, but the astronautical program is not quite as popular, and therefore at a limited number of schools. The few places that offer astronautical programs tend to be close to laboratories and government programs based on space activity.
