the Type R is a B18C5 engine and the GSR is a B18C1 engine. GS-R with 170 Horse Power, and Type R with 197 Horse Power. Type-R is the racer of the group that has modified suspension, Brakes Wheels, Interior, Braces, Lighter Seats and Aerodynamics. Plus they were limited edition and only came in limited colors.
GSR's can be easily modified to be faster including switching to Type R cams etc.
Both are DOHC VTEC motors.

No. The cylinder head on the Type R and GSR are different. The bolt and coolant holes will not match up. However, the Type R's intake manifold will fit a 99-00 Civic SI because their cylinder heads are similar.
