- First generation has a square Wi-Fi antenna cover, the third has a round antenna cover
- The third generation is thinner than the first generation
- Third generation has a much faster processor and RAM than the first generation
- Third generation cannot yet be jailbroken due to a certain type of firewall, first generation does not have this firewall.
- Motion sensitivity is much more smooth, as well as landscape and vertical turning in the third generation than the first generation
- The third generation comes with earbuds with a microphone, so you can make voice notes on the iPod, while the first generation came with a black cleaning cloth labeled 'iPod'.
