Some farmers grow apples in what they call an organic method. These are "grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones". The farmers that use the term organic must go along with the rules as set above.

A recent study examined the past 50 years' worth of scientific articles concluded that organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs are not significantly different in their nutrient content.
