A coma is a state of unconsciousness in which a person fails to respond to pain, noise and other external occurrences, but whose other bodily functions work fine. A cold sleep, or cryonics, occurs when a person is on the brink of death and is frozen in order to prolong life in the hopes of curing them of an illness. During a cold sleep, all blood is drained from the body and the person has no autonomic body functions, like breathing.
