Other names are Before the Common Era, Before the Current Era, with all these expressions abbreviated as BCE. AD is widely used for numbering years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.

∙ 12y agoIn the proleptic Gregorian calendar, the date would have went from December 31, 0001 BC to January 1, 0001 AD. There was no year zero, so the difference between AD and BC is just like the difference between 2011 and 2012.
