You don't have to cut of the dreads you can comb them out but it takes a long time and must be painful. i think though that he def cut it because I've seen pics of his dreads and they looked like they were about to fall apart where the rubberband was. So maybe he has fakes til his hair grows out.
Why did tom kaulitz get cornrows?
If you look at some pics you can see how torn the dreads were, especially where the rubberband used to be. He probably had to make a change or they would fall out. I guess he just felt like he needed a change to his hairstyle. Bill got dreads i think around the same time Tom got his new style.

Yes when he was 4yrs old his mum took him down to the hair dressers so he could have dreadlock put in his hair so as far as we know i think he has had em ever since he was 4 yrs old i dont know for sure actually he wanted low maintenance hair so he grew it and did not comb it out so eventually his hair got dreaded no he didnt get dreads that young i believe he said when he 13 or 12 cuz in a interview the person who was interviewing him asked when did you get them and he said 3 years ago and i think he was 16 at the time.
