Glucose is a monosaccharide (or simple sugar) also known as grape sugar, blood sugar, or corn sugar, it is a very important carbohydrate in Biology. Glycogen is a starch like carbohydrate stored in the liver and other animal tissues. It is changed into glucose when the body needs energy.

Glucose is found in the body's blood. Everything we eat gives us energy. Glucose basically gives us this energy. The liver takes blood that has too much glucose in it and turns this into glycogen. When the correct amount of energy from the glucose is produced, the liver then turn the glucose into glycogen. The glycogen is then stored . When the body is low on energy (decrease in blood glucose), cells secrete glucagon. This breaks down the glycogen and turns it into glucose and releases it into the blood, so that the body can get the right amount of energy required. This process continues as the body tries to maintain a balance in energy. (:

What is the difference between liver glycogen and muscle glycogen?

Liver glycogen has low glycogenin content as compared to muscle glycogen.. liver glycogen responds to glucagon but muscle glycogen responds to catecholamines.. liver glycogen is used for the maintenance of blood glucose levels, but muscle glycogen is used for the supply of energy to the muscles liver glycogen can be completely broken down to glucose because of the presence of glucose 6 phosphatase, which does not occur in the muscles

What is the carbohydrate that is found in abundance in mammalian blood?

Glucose

What is the subunits of glycogen?

i think glucose ..it convert into glycogen by the help of glycogen

What is the difference between insulin and glucagon?

Insulin signals blood cells like liver and muscle cells. These are used to accelerate the conversion of glucose to glycogen that's stored in the liver. Glucagon attach themselves to liver cells telling them to convert glycogen to glucose and to release glucose into the blood.

What carbohydrate is stored in the liver?

Glycogen in form of glucose.

What is the difference between amylopectin and glycogen?

Amylopectin is a branched chain polymer of glucose found in plants, while glycogen is a highly branched polymer of glucose found in animals and humans. Both serve as storage forms of glucose, with glycogen being the main form of energy storage in animals and humans, while amylopectin is the main form of energy storage in plants.

Chemical compounds that are converted to glycogen?

Glycogen synthesis is an endergonic reaction that utilizes UTP to form UDP-glucose. UDP-glucose is then turned into glycogen by the glycogen synthase enzyme.

What is the difference between glucose glycogen and glucagon?

Glucose a monosaccaride otherwise known as sugarused for energyGlycogen is secreted by the pancreas to stimulate an increase in blood sugar levelGlucagon, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, raises blood glucose levels

Is glucose the basic unit of glycogen?

Glucose is the basic unit of glycogen. In humans, glycogen is stored in the liver as well as the muscle tissues.

What is the storage form of glucose?

Animals store excess glucose in their liver as a large compound called glycogen. Plants store extra glucose in their starch.

Does oxidation of glucose yield more energy than glycogen?

No. The oxidation of glycogen yields more energy than glucose. You need to put energy in formation of the glycogen from glucose. Naturally, this energy is released, when you get get glucose from glycogen.

What is the role of glycogen in living organisms?

Glycogen is the primary short term energy storage in animal cells. It is made in both muslces and the liver. Glycogen is basically the energy reservoir for the glucose cycle. .................................................................................................................................. Answer Glycogen is the main energy storage material in animals and animals store excess glucose as glycogen. Also, Glycogen its a large molecule,so it can store lots of energy.
