What determines if a sound is loud or soft?

The determining factor as to the softness or loudness of a sound is the amplitude of the sound wave. We know that sound is mechanical energy, and a source of sound will put mechanical energy into the medium through which it is going to travel. Let's look at the wave. The mechanical wave has a compression phase and a rarefaction phase. In compression, the source compresses the medium to impart energy. In the rarefaction phase, the source will act to decompress the medium. The sound will propagate outward in a series of compression and decompression phases. The difference between a loud and a softer sound is the degree to which a medium is compressed and rarefied during the process by which the sound energy is put into the medium. Fortunately there is a question (and an answer) that goes into this in a bit of detail. It is linked in the Related questions section.

Guided versus unguided network?

Guided Media : Guided Transmission Media uses a "cabling" system that guides the data signals along a specific path. The data signals are bound by the "cabling" system. Guided Media is also known as Bound Media Unguided Transmission Media consists of a means for the data signals to travel but nothing to guide them along a specific path. In a guided medium signal passes through a physical pathway(s),while in an unguided medium signal passes through a vacuum, it is independent of a physical pathway.

What is Un-Guided or Wireless Transmission Media?

there are two type of medium in communication 1.guide medium 2.unguided medium those which have some path or wire, or we can say signals travels through through wire or any medium is called guide medium. while without any wire or when ever there is wireless system like bluetooth, infrared is used is unguided medium. we can say guide (wire) and and unguide (wireless) communication or system.

What is unguided communication medium?

A guided communication medium is a space be mostly of solid state such as wires , where tranmission/recieveing data is only carried out within the space that the medium occupies. In the case of a wire, it's volume. Transmission is restricted to that particular space, thus it is called a guided communication. Example of this types of medium inlcude the coaxical cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair cable...
