the difference between hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism is:

Hyperthyroidism is the over secretion of Thyroxine while Hypothyroidism is the under secretion of Thyroxine.

HypOthyroidism means that the thyroid is not making enough thyroid hormone for the body's needs.

HypERthyroidism means that the thyroid is making too much thyroid hormone for the body's needs.

The symptoms of HYPOthryroidism include:

-moderate fatigue to severe exhaustion,

-dry skin,

-brittle nails,

-constipation,

-difficulty handling hot or cold temperatures,

-decreased sex drive,

-headaches,

-mood swings,

-anxiety and depression. -weight gain (mostly water weight & slow metabolism),

-fatigue,

-irritability,

-infertility,

-puffy face,

-heavy menstrual periods

-is treated by supplements of thyroid hormones

-Hypothyroidism shows decreased levels of T3 and T4 and increased levels of TSH

The symptoms of HYPERthyroidism include:

-Increased sweating and/or intolerance to the heat,

-more frequent bowl movements,

-weight loss (high metabolism)

-fatigue,

-decreased ability to concentrate and quickened heart rate.

-insomnia -wandering mind, sweating,

-irregular menstrual periods,

-muscle weakness,

-nervousness and soft nails

-is treated by anti-thyroid drugs

-Hyperthyroidism can lead to thyrotoxicosis and grave's disease whereas hypothyroidism does not produce those diseases

-in hyperthyroidism, there is an increased levels of T3 and T4 and a decreased level in TSH.

In hyperthyroidism the thyroid gland makes too much of the thyroid hormone. In hypothyroidism the thyroid gland does not make enough of the thyroid hormone.
