Minor tranquilizers are benzodiazopines which treat anxiety and help sleep, while major tranquilizers are used to treat bi polar, schizophrenia etc but also help anxiety. i have had both for severe anxiety the major tranquilizers help me sleep better and were prescribed when i got a virus which causes anxiety but they didn't know that at the time and just though i was loosing it so they gave me the stuff. I am coming off the minor (valium) but has to be gradual because of the hellish withdrawal symptoms which are hard to deal with. They are not related in their mechanism of action , i can't say any more without guessing.
