OSI was made by ISO (international standards organization) in 1970s while, DoD was used by only the US govt.'s Department of Defense thus DoD model. DoD was primitive and had problems with it and was not in too much detail, so when it was available to public market, the ISO revised it and add more details and layers. Due to that it made it more specified.
There is no difference in the OSI model between a real physical machine and a virtualized one.

It depends on what kind of model it is, but in the model for computer 321O, it is on the layer between trhe keyboard and the behind screen, and there is a button with the osi code and there says everything.
