Protons and neutrons have approximately the same mass, but the proton is electrically charged and the neutron isn't. Electrons have a much much lower mass and an opposite electrical charge to that of the proton.

That's about as simple as I can get it. It's by no means the only difference between them.

What is the difference between an atom a molecule and an element?

An atom is a nucleus of protons and neutrons with electrons orbiting around. An element is an atom with a specific amount of protons, neutrons, and electrons. A molecule is a bunch of atoms stuck together.

Does an atom have a charge if the neutrons equals the protons?

It depends on the amount of electrons in the outer shells. The neutrons do not affect the charge of an atom as they are already neutron. There is only a charge if there is a difference in protons and electrons, not protons and neutrons.

How many protons neutrons and electrons in 40 Ar?

18 protons 18 electrons 22 neutrons

The main difference between isotopes of the same element has to do with the number of neutrons electrons protons or any of the above?

How many protons and electrons does mercury have?

Mercury (Hg) can ONLY have 80 protons, or else it cannot be mercury. The difference between its mass number (201) and 80 is 121, which is the number of neutrons. These can vary and are called isotopes. The number of protons can always only be 80 for mercury, tho.

What are the 2 difference between protons and neutrons?

- protons are positive and neutrons are neutral- a small difference of mass exist

What three major parts of a atom?

The three constituents that make an atom are protons, neutrons, and electrons.

How many protons neutrons and electrons are in Rutherfordium?

Rutherfordium has 104 electrons and 104 protons. The number of neutrons is between 149 and 264, depending on the isotope.

What do two neutral isotopes of the element have in common?

The same numbers of protons and of electrons; the difference between isotopes is in the number of neutrons.

How many electrons does thorium -230 have?

Thorium 230 has 90 protons and 140 neutrons - the difference is 50.

Are electrons protons or neutrons the smallest particles if not what arew?

protons/neutrons are made of quarks which are smaller than electrons. electrons are smaller than protons and neutrons.
