Psychedelic is most commonly used to describe the illicit effects of hallucinogenic drugs, including changes in emotions, perception, cognition, and altered states of mental awareness.
These effects can sometimes be compared with or confused for psychosis.
Psychotic is an adjective describing behavior induced by Psychosis, which is literally means "an abnormal condition of the mind". People with psychosis are described psychiatricly as having lost the conidtional human sense of reality. These people often have delusional thoughts which may unpleasantly affect their daily lives.
The difference between the two lies mostly in the emotional set of the person having the experience, as well as whether genetics or substance induced the experience. Psychedelic experiences, induced by drugs, are generally seen as pleasant and exciting experiences. Hallucinations related to being psychotic would likely be the contrary.
