'Pure' is to know you've done something bad and ask for forgiveness, but if you do something you know is bad and then do it and think "I won't get in trouble because I'll just ask for forgiveness" won't work. Only God and Jesus are perfect.

The words are very similar in meaning, but there is a subtle difference. Whereas the word 'perfect' "suggests completeness and lack of blemish" ['Use The Right Word' by Reader's Digest], the word 'pure' means "free from tainting or polluting matter; undefiled" [Collins English Dictionary] .

God the Father is perfect :-

Mat 5:48 KJV Be ye therefore perfect, even as yourFather which is in heaven is perfect.

Jesus and God are the same ( so this makes Jesus perfect also):-

Joh 10:30 [KJV] I and myFather are one.

Even if at least one of the Disciples didn't really realize that Jesus was God, the Pharisees knew exactly what Jesus meant:-

Joh 14:8-10 KJV Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. [v. 9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? [v. 10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Joh 10:33 KJV The Jews answered him, saying, ...[W]e stone thee ... for blasphemy... because that thou... makest thyself God.

Just as the perfect Christ took the sins of impure man on Himself and was therefore rejected by God the Father because He was then not perfect, so Christians (who ALL have imperfections) take on the righteousness of Christ which then makes them spiritually-perfect in God's eyes and therefore able to come into His presence:-

2Co 5:21 [NET] God [the Father] made the one who did not know sin [ie Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, so that in him [ie Christ] we [ie Christians] would become the righteousness of God.

Man by his own efforts cannot be perfect, because man is impure, or defiled in the sacrificial-offering sense:-

Gal 3:3 KJV Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

[Obviously the answer is 'No'!]

The only way impure, or defiled, man can be made pure and become perfect spiritually is through the Holy Spirit with love of fellow Christians and by the continued application of the Scriptures:-

1Pe 1:22 KJV Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

2Ti 3:16-17 KJV All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [v. 17] That the man of God [ie a Christian]may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

In summary, becoming perfect is a matter of taking something imperfect, and gradually removing the impurities until perfection is reached.
