The term "purebred" is used among breeders to mean an animal whose ancestors are all from within its breed. Examples are horses (Arabian, Clydesdale, ...) and dogs (Golden Retriever, Boston Terrier, ...). Most purebreds are registered to prove their lineage.

The term "hybrid" means a mixture or cross between two types. Example: among dogs, the "labradoodle" is a cross (hybrid) between Labrador and Poodle.

Purebred refers to any life or object in which the product was created using 2 or more alike components. Hybrid refers to the act of using 2 or more similar but not alike components to produce the product. For example 2 bears have a cub who is purebred. If you have a bear and a pig then you get a hybrid offspring. Such examples of hybrid that actually exist would be the tiger muskellunge (Northern Pike crossed with a muskellunge) or liger (lion crossed with a tiger).
