Stermgewehr. Also known as the Mp44 and the Stg-44
Yes. The STG-44 aka the MP44, was a weapon made my the Germans in WWII. STG is and abbreviation for Sturmgewehr which means "Storm rifle" in German. The name MP44 was also given to it. MP is an Abbreviation for Machinepistole or "Machine pistol". The "44" indicates the year it was put into production, 1944. It shot a slightly shortened version of the Mauser Kar98k round, the 7.95mm and it fired about 200-400 rounds per minute.
Yes, most certainly, on the Eastern Front. The German soldiers loved the weapon and could not get enough. 426000 were produced, mostly of the production variant StG44 (MP44 was an earlier designation).
There is no such firearm as an STG 41.
