They stand for the Irish Republican Army and the Provisional Irish Republican Army. Throughout Irish history, there have been several groups using the name IRA and there have been a number of splits resulting in new groups being set up. PIRA arose from one of those splits in December 1969, from a dispute about how to respond to violence in nationalist areas and whether to recognise the governments in Dublin, Belfast and London. PIRA wanted to be more radical in its response, than some of the older members of the IRA at that time.

the PIRA is just a special group of the IRA type this URL for more

When did the Irish Republican Army start?

During Irish History there have been a number of groups that used the title IRA. The first IRA can date itself back to 1913, known then as the Irish Volunteers, and took the name "Irish Republican Army" in 1919. It is now often referred to as the "Old IRA". Since then there have been splits which have led to groups using "IRA", including: The Provisional IRA (PIRA), founded in 1969 and best known for paramilitary campaigns during the 1970s-1990s; The term 'IRA' is almost always now used to when talking about them, but there are others. The Official IRA was the remainder of the IRA after the Provisional IRA split away in 1969. They are now inactive in the military sense. The 'Real' IRA, and The Continuity IRA were 1990s breakaway from the PIRA.

Whats The difference between IRA and IRB?

Early 20th century- IRA was a consolidation of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and the Irish Citizen Army(ICA, Connelly's force) after 1916. The IRA had much more popular support than the IRB. The IRB was also much smaller in size than the IRA. You cannot really compare the modern day IRA to the IRB.

When did the IRA END?

From what i know it ended a while ago, but there is still dirty british rule in northern ireland, and till this day there is still a well respected IRA but more commonly call PIRA, the "provo"IRA. Not to sure the meaning of that. But the war ended but the IRA still fights. And now with a recession I am sure they we begin to fight again, recession does that to people. Was there a conflict between the IRA and the Real IRA?

Most people would understand "The IRA" as the Provisional IRA. The "real" IRA,(I use the term very loosely), established themselves following the Good Friday Agreement, while the PIRA laid down their arms to persue republicanism by legislative, peaceful means. This would lead to some obvious tensions. While the leadership of the PIRA deny it, it is often assumed that the PIRA shot a RIRA member Joe O'Connor, back in 2000. There have also been bullets posted to Sinn Fein assembly members like John O'Dowd back around 2007, a traditional death threat. But no significant conflict no... There are some articles in related links concerning the conflicts.

A stretch IRA is a strategy that allows beneficiaries to "stretch" the distributions from an inherited IRA over their life expectancy to minimize taxes, while an inherited IRA refers to an IRA that is inherited by a beneficiary upon the death of the original account holder. Inherited IRAs must be taken as distributions and cannot be contributed to, unlike traditional IRAs.
