The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church, which is the largest Christian group in the world with approximately 1.2 billion members worldwide.

The LDS Prophet is the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called the "Mormon" church), which has approximately 14.5 million members worldwide.

While both are leaders of worldwide Christian organizations, the Pope is obviously much more widely known because the Catholic Church is so much more popular and widespread.

Both consider themselves to be the rightful successor and leader of the same Christian church that was organized in the New Testament, Catholics believing their church has continued since that time, and Mormons believing that church was lost and later restored to them.

The Pope is considered by followers to be infallible, while the prophet is considered to be a fallible mortal man, however both seem to revered similarly by the members of their respective churches.

Both are expected to serve until death, although a handful of Popes have resigned.

Upon the death of a Pope, the cardinals govern the church and gather together to elect the new Pope by submitting ballots. During this period, Catholics and non-Catholics excitedly anticipate the announcement and speculate who might be chosen. LDS Prophets are not elected by ballot, the next prophet is always the most senior Apostle. Upon the death of a prophet, the Apostles govern the church until each has expressed that God has revealed to them that the senior Apostle should in fact be the prophet. It is always known who the next prophet will be, and it is believed that they are selected by God by His preserving them through all their years of service.

In addition to being a major religious leader the Pope also has some political power as the leader of Vatican City, which is considered it's own nation. The Prophet has no political power today and is not allowed to hold any political office, although the first two prophets did serve in political office while serving as prophet - Joseph Smith as Mayor and Brigham Young as Governor.

Both are well provided for by their churches, which provide their apartments, living expenses, and travel expenses.

Both are considered the only person rightfully able to speak the word of God for their entire church.

The Pope is always single, as with all Catholic Priests. However, the Prophet is required to have been married (although he may be or become a widower during his service).

Following Catholic tradition, the Pope is usually seen dressed in symbolic ceremonial clothing, and many ceremonial traditions take place when he is presented to speak. The LDS Prophet is more casual, usually wearing a suit and tie. While audiences often stand in reverence and respect as he enters a room, there is no ceremony or procession that accompanies him.

In short, both are leaders of worldwide Christian groups and perform much of the same duties in that role, although in different ways.

Has any LDS prophet met any Catholic Pope?

I believe President Gordon B. Hinckley met with Pope John Paul II, but I couldn't find any record of it. In any case, Catholic church leaders and LDS church leaders have met together on several occasions. The Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City works closely with the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, and they often support each other's important events.

What is the difference between flds and lds?

The FLDS (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) split from the LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) when the LDS church banned the practice of polygamy over 100 years ago. There are many huge difference between the two religions today. The FLDS has several thousand members, mostly all in the western United States and Canada. The LDS has over 14 million members all over the world. The FLDS generally live in isolated communities made up almost entirely of other members. The LDS live and participate in regular society. The FLDS tend to be quite secretive and insular, the LDS are not. The FLDS has it's own set of church leaders and does not recognize the LDS leaders as legitimate. The LDS do not recognize the FLDS leaders as legitimate. The FLDS have a very distinctive style of dress, while the LDS look and dress like most everyone else in mainstream society. The most important difference is that the FLDS believe that various changes made in practices among the LDS were not sanctioned by God and therefore they try to live the fundamental or original beliefs of Mormonism, including that of polygamous marriages. The FLDS have also developed many doctrinal beliefs and practices which were never taught among the LDS.

What is the comparison between roman catholic and Iglesia ni cristo and mormonism?

All three are "Christian" religions Catholics believe in the Trinity, LDS and INC churches do not. Catholic and LDS churches see Christ as a God (although in very different ways). INC does not see Christ as a God, but as a mediator between man and God the Father. The Catholic church professes to be the same continuous church that Christ founded while he was on the earth. LDS and INC churches believe that the church Christ founded fell into apostasy after the death of the apostles, and therefore profess to be a restoration of the church Christ founded while he was on the earth. According to each sect: The Catholic church has a Pope, who has the authority of God, passed all the way down from Peter. The INC was restored by a Prophet (Felix Manolo) with the authority of god, but he was the last that will be seen on the earth. The LDS Church claims to have been restored by a Prophet as well, but claims that the authority of God carried by that man (Joseph Smith Jr) has been passed down (similar to Catholic authority) and that the Church today is still led by a living prophet and twelve apostles. There are plenty more things to compare. These are the biggest (imho).

What is the weight difference between foreign lds mission papers?

It is a rumor that your LDS mission paper packet will be 'heavier' or 'thicker' if you are being called to a foreign mission rather than a stateside mission. It is true that there is extra information regarding passports, visas, etc for the specific country you are called to, however the actual weight difference between stateside and foreign mission packets is so small that it could no be measured with a standard household scale.

Driving distance between legoland and san Diego lds temple?

When were the LDS allowed in the LDS church?

I don't know why you asked that question. "LDS" means "Latter Day Saints" and refers to anyone who is a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or LDS church. That is pretty self explanatory. So the LDS were ALWAYS allowed in the LDS church because the LDS church is made up of only LDS people. Duh.

Can a non-member of the LDS join an LDS dating website?

I'm not sure, it probably depends on the site since LDS-specific sites are usually full of LDS members looking to date other LDS members. LDSSingles.com, LDSPlanet.com, LDSMingle.com, and LDSSingleSite.com are a few LDS dating sites you can try.
