The Land of Israel (Ereṣ Yisra'el in Hebrew) is the section of land in the Levant on the coast of the Eastern Mediterranean whose borders are defined in The Bible. The Land of Israel is the historical and spiritual homeland of the Jews. Historically it was home to the Israelites and other Semitic tribes. It was not until the Jews had been living their for 3,000 or so years that Arabs came to the Land of Israel.
The State of Israel (Medinat Yisra'el) is the country created in 1948 by Zionists like Ben-Gurion, replacing what was previously known as the British Mandate of Palestine. It is home Jews from around the world and Palestinians. It has a unique culture, a fusion of Jewish, Arab, Yiddish, and Sefardi cultures. Modern Hebrew and Arabic are the official languages.
