According to the statistics for both years they are the same if you have a Q code engine (266hp), which you will find on your Vin Number eg 3F05Q100001 and was called a CJ engine. However in 1972 they also produced a R code engine which had 275hp called a HO engine eg 3F05R100001 which is 3 for year, F plant built in,05 for Mach1 body, R for engine code, then you cars number of the production line.

Hope this helps

How do you tell the difference in the 351w and the 351c?

There are different ways. One is that the 351w fuel pump bolts to the timing cover, the 351c bolts to the engine block. Water flows through the 351w intake manifold and does not on the 351c. The 351w has inline valves and the 351c has canted valves. The 351w has squared intake ports and the 351c has huge round ports. Hope this helps some.

Which is a better motor a 351m or a 351c or 351w?

They are all good engines but the m is not a powerful engine. The 351c code R is considered by most to be the most powerful but there were low power models built which was Code H. The 351W is an entirely different engine than the 351C even though they are the same size.

What is the net horsepower rating of a 1973 351 Cleveland 4v engine?

266 horsepower@ 5500 There is too much incorrect info out there re: the 351C engine. 266HP net is correct for '72 (M or Q code). The '73 351C 4V (Q) was rated 248HP net due to lower compression (dished pistons) and smaller valves. All my information is taken from original Ford literature.

Horsepower rating of 1973 351 Cleveland?

154 / 159 / 161 /163 / 164 /177 ( 2 barrel ) The '73 351C 4V (Q) was rated 248HP net. All my information is taken from original Ford literature.

What is the difference between a ford 351 Cleveland square block and D block?

The terms 'D' block and 'square' block apply to differences in the casting of the Ford Cleveland engine block. This difference is visible on the block just in front of where the left head mounts where the fuel line usually crosses over. This casting mark either looks square or it'll be in the rough shape of a "D". The 'D' block is the earlier casting, in fact the initial casting of the 351C block and the 'square' block is the later one. How much later is open to conjecture. 'Square' blocks would appear to have been available in the U.S. in 1971, and there is some evidence to show that the 'square' block appeared in automatic XY 351C 2V's as early as May, 1971, and in manual XY 351C 2V's in December, 1971. It does appear that XY 351C 4V engines continued with 'D' blocks. What can be said though is that no XW or XY GT came with a square block, and that all Australian built engines are patterned after the 'square' blocks. All the 1971 Boss 351 engines were all square blocks. I know that the 1970 351C 4-V M-code was a "D" block.
