The only difference is the area (volume) the engine uses to make power. This volume is measured in Litres. A 7.3L engine uses 7.3 litres of volume in the clyinders to make the power it produces. So essentially, the size of the engine is the only difference, this would also effect horsepower as well.

Yes, i believe the rover 75CDT and CDTI diesel engine (called M47R) is the very same as the BMW E46 320 diesel engine (called M47). This BMW engine was also used in the BMW E39 520 diesel car This information is available on WIKIPEDIA. Regards Tommy
