A solution is produced by dissolving a solid in a liquid and when completely dissolved there are no particles to be seen; just a transparent liquid (not if you put milk in your tea).

A suspension is created when the tiny particles of a substance which is not dissolvable are stirred into a liquid. You can still tell that the particles are still there, and the liquid is not transparent. Think about the particles of cocoa powder stirred into hot water (without milk). You can find some of the powder left when you have drunk up.

How do you tell the difference between a solution and a suspension?

The traditional test is that a suspension scatters at least some of any light that passes through the suspension, while a solution does not.

Is orange juice a solution or suspension?

Orange juice from concentrate would be a solution, although real orange juice is neither a solution or a suspension. The major difference between solution and suspension is that a solution is a homogeneous mixture, and a suspension is heterogeneous.

What is the difference between a solution a colloid and suspension?

A solution has only one phase.A suspension has two phases.A colloid has two phases but the colloidal particles have dimensions under 1 micrometre.

What is the difference between a solution and a suspension in chemistry?

In chemistry, a solution is a homogeneous mixture where the solute is completely dissolved in the solvent, while a suspension is a heterogeneous mixture where the solute particles are suspended in the solvent and can settle out over time.

How can you tell the difference between suspension colloid or solution?

Use the Tyndall Effect shine a light through it. If the light is scattered then it is colloidal. Both colloids and suspensions are heterogeneous. A solution will not show the beam through it's substance but the colloid will. The particles in the suspension will eventually settle at the bottom, showing that it is NOT a solution.
