What is the difference in the biblical creation story between daylight on the first day and the sun moon and stars on the fourth day?

The ancients did not really understand that all the light of day came from this quite small sun disc. In Genesis 1:3-5, God creating the light of day and the darkness of night on day 1. In Genesis 1:16, God created two great lights, not as the sole sources of light on earth, but simply to rule the day and the night, in the manner of the sun god and moon god.

∙ 9y agoThe light which God created on the first day was not the sun. It had no visible source and could be compared to what we might call a "white hole." For further reading:
