Cows are polygastric. They have one stomach that has four compartments, these consist of the rumen (the first stomach), the reticulum, the omasum, and finally the abomasum which is the "true" stomach. Cattle are known for this reason to be Ruminates.

Cattle are known as ruminant animals, meaning that they have one stomach with four chambers. This system allows the animal to eat (while it is safe too) until they fill the first stomach-the Rumen. Once the animal is sure that they are safe from predators they will lay down (known as the resting state) and begin to regurgitate the undigested food, placing it into the remaining four stomachs.

This is how they are able to feed and still be safe from predators.
