Islam is the majority religion in Indonesia. 87% of the population is Muslim (followers of Islam). Christianity (Protestants and Catholic) are a distant second place with only 9% of the population. The 2010 census had about 207 million Muslims and only 23 million Christians. This Muslim population is almost three times as great as the most populous middle eastern country, Egypt with 79 million Muslims.
