Antacids are medicine that counteract acidity. The different types of antacids are sodium antacids (Alka-seltzers), calcium antacids (Tums) and magnesium antacids (Maalox).
With a mixture of Orange juice and tums, you can make antacids.
Tums is comprised of Calcium Bicarbinate, not sodium bicarb like most other antacids
Antacids are used to neutralize stomach acidity. You take antacids (such as Tums or Rolaids) when you experience heartburn or upset stomach.
Antacids are generally solid water-soluble bases such as a carbonate salt. The major ingredient in Tums is calcium carbonate.
Antacids are used to neutralize the acid in the stomach. They are commonly used to treat heartburn and indigestion. Some well known antacid brands include Alka-Seltzer and Tums.
I saw there is a Tums for Kids ages 2-11.
Alkaline and act as antacids. TUMS is an antacid made of sucrose (sugar) and calcium carbonate. It provides relief from acid indigestion, heartburn, and indigestion ("sour stomach") and is considered a calcium supplement.
Because the calcium carbonate in the antacids help neutralise the excess acid in the stomach which is causing the discomfort.
Tums Kids for 2-11 years old has 750mg of Calcium Carbonate. Tums Adult regular has 500mg of Cacium Carbonate. Maybe the cherry blast flavor in the kids version needs to be offset by the extra 250mg of antacid. Regardless dosage appears to be up to 750mg as safe. Please use as little as possible to avoid constipation and masking real problems like giardia or parasites
Preferrably not - cats do not get stomach aches from excessive stomach acid like humans do. You could make your cat very ill if you gave it Tums. May cat has never told me the cause of her stomach aches, no matter how many times I ask her. Cats do vomit bile, and antacids can be used for temporary relief. You don't give them peptobismol, but you can give them tums regular formula. Avoid antacids with magnesium, like tums smoothies. If it persists and can no longer be considered acute, have your cat checked by their vet.
Antacids, such as Tums, will provide quick relief of heartburn. There are also many natural ways to end heartburn pain. Milk, over-ripe bananas or chewing gum to name a few.
