NOTE: This is a Toyota OBDII Drive Cycle description that applies to many models and years, but the following was originally published for 2000-2002 4Runner, Avalon, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, and Tundra.

Monitor status will be reset to "Incomplete" if the ECU loses power or DTCs are cleared. If a drive cycle is interrupted, it can be resumed. Avoid sudden speed changes.

Check engine light (MIL) must be OFF.

STEP 1: Connect a scan tool and check monitors status and precondition.

STEP 2: Start the engine and idle for at least 2 minutes

STEP 3: Drive at 40-70 mph or more for at least 3 minutes. Be sure engine speed remains at 900-3200 rpm.

STEP 4: Stop the vehicle and allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds or more.

STEP 5: Drive the vehicle at 25 mph for at least 40 seconds or more. Keep engine speed above 900 rpm.

STEP 6: Stop the vehicle and allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds or more.

STEP 7: Repeat Steps 5-6 ten times.

STEP 8: Check the monitor status. It should switch to "Complete". If not, be sure enabling criteria are met.

STEP 9: If the monitor has not switched to complete, turn the ignition OFF and repeat Steps 2-7.

STEP 10: The readiness status may not switch to "Complete" if a Pending Code is detected. If so, a second drive cycle is needed to confirm the DTC.

STEP 11: Perform a second drive cycle to confirm the DTC. Once a second drive cycle is completed, a current DTC will be stored.
