What is the drug lithium used for?

Lithium is typically prescribed for people with bi-polar disorder (what was more commonly called "manic depression" until recently).

Lithium might also be used as an adjuvant to other drug in depression treatment of "non-bipolar" people.

It is indeed used for depression, but what I found some years ago was very interesting. It is a natural salt from the earth, and there is a town in the U.S. that has these naturally existing salt mines.. incerdibally, this town has the LOWEST SUICIDE rate in the Nation. Pretty wild!......<> it can also be used for Borderline Personality Disorder to control the rages and impulses. i myself could not take it for BPD because of physical health issues so i take Sodium Valproate, brand name Epilim.
