The financial assistance you receive after filling out a FAFSA will go to your school first to cover your tuition and fees first. This money should arrive by the due date, but if you are at all worried about it not getting there in time, you should contact the financial aid office at your school. Be sure to pay any charges your financial aid will not cover by the due date. If there is an overage, your school will send you a check. Each school is different, so you will need to find out when that is from your school.
FAFSA-It takes 48 hours to process your application and 2-3 weeks to finalize it. (send it to the school(s) listed.) School's-5-6 weeks for the Financial Aid Office to post your award(s).
Wait 10 years from the date of the bankruptcy filing (some bankruptcy courts have ruled that the time is from the date of discharge, usually less than 6 months from the date of filing). If the bankruptcy has not been removed from a credit report, go to the credit reporting bureau website and complete the form asking for the error (not removing the bankruptcy listing) to be corrected. If that doesn't work, either get a lawyer or send the bureau a certified letter, return receipt requested, asking them to remove it. You may want to send the same letter by ordinary mail, just in case they refuse to accept the certified letter.

The financial aid you receive after filling out a FAFSA will go straight to your school first to cover your tuition, fees, and room and board if applicable. If there is an overage, then your school will either send you a check or they will direct deposit the money into your bank account.
