WHOEVER POSTED THIS PLEASE KEEP YOUR OPINIONS OUT OF ANY FUTURE ANSWERS YOU MAKE. THE MILITARY ALWAYS ISSUES W-2'S WELL BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR AND THERE ARE NO END OF YEAR CHANGES MADE.

ALSO, SOME PEOPLE PREFER TO HAVE MORE TAXES TAKEN OUT AND A BIGGER REFUND COMING. IT'S A PERSONAL PREFERENCE THAT DOESN'T NEED YOUR JUDGEMENT PASSED ON IT IN SOME CONDESCENDING WAY.

INSTEAD OF SAYING HOW MANY TIMES IT'S BEEN ASKED, IGNORE THE QUESTION, AND/OR TELL US HOW TO CORRECTLY ACCESS THE DATABASE. WITHOUT THE EXTRA, "I'M SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU" TALK.

LASTLY, SEVERAL PEOPLE THESE DAYS FILE THEIR OWN TAXES ONLINE, NEGATING ANY HASSLE WITH FORMS OR THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPLY THEM.

THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ASKED AND ANSWERED MANY, MANY TIMES AND IS PART OF THE DATABASE.

CORRECTLY USING THE SYSTEM WOULD HAVE PROVIDED THE ANSWER WITHOUT ANY DELAY.

You really can't even try to file until February 15th. Prior to that date you must make every reasonable effort to obtain a W-2 from your employer, who is required to mail or otherwise deliver your W-2 to you no later than January 31st. Not receiving a W-2, or any form for that matter, does not excuse you from reporting that information on your return..but not having them will delay processing.

Also, you need any of the other forms (like 1099, from banks, etc), and if you do file with out them, there are additional forms you need to provide so the IRS can find out why whoever was to provide them didn't. Obviously this can delay the processing of your return....and if the amounts you showed don't exactly match what is filed (and employers frequently have some year end changes that will make your last stub in accurate), you would have to file an amended return to correct it...or expect nasty-grams and assesments from the IRS! Certainly no refund will be made until all that is cleared up...so trying to do things other than as the system wants, generally only delays things.

Finally, if your wanting to do so early because you have a large refund coming...especially if that is common for you...you should file a new Form W-9, to change the amount of withholding being done so your not always having too much taken out of your check through the year.

Husband dies leaves unpaid income taxes filing jointly is wife responsible if there is no estate in Indiana?

Joint filers are both responsible for the entire tax bill. If the unpaid taxes are from a year that the couple filed jointly, the wife is fully responsible for any unpaid taxes unless she can meet the qualifications for innocent spouse relief. After the filing deadline, a joint return cannot be amended to separate returns. If there are unpaid taxes from 2008, the wife can still file a separate return for 2008. If a joint return has been filed for 2008, they have until April 15, 2009 to amend.

Would your retired parents pay taxes on income less than 32000 for 2008?

Assuming they were both over 65, filed jointly, and took the standard deduction, they would most likely owe federal taxes if their joint income was over $20,000. There are situations where they could owe taxes even if their income was lower, for example, if some of their income was from self-employment or they had not taken the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) on their traditional IRA or 401k. And many states have even lower thresholds for state income taxes.

If you filed for an extension on your 2008 taxes what date do you have to file after that?

You can file your taxes anytime after your extension, be sure to file before October 15th of that filing year. You may suffer penalties and interest higher than what you would have if you filed by that date. Also, remember to at least pay something with your extension to show the IRS that you have intentions of paying your federal liability. It is best to pay as much as you can to pay down the debt.

Can you file taxes for 2008 even though 2007 isn't done?

Get your 2008 taxes filed on time (or at least file an extension) even if you are not done with your 2007 taxes. You have already reached the maximum failure to file penalty for 2007. If you don't get your 2008 taxes filed on time, you will get a whole new set of penalties for 2008.
