To be honest, there is no easy way. The lower bolts come off easy, its the top nut and bushing. The best way is with the car on a hoist. There is just enough room between the frame, and most likely you will have to use a torch to cut the nut or top of shock rod. Have water handy, the ( if equipped ) air ride air line are right there. Any heat applied to them will melt the line and then you have to spend more time to fix that. Best is to have the garage do the job, if you are not equipped.

The rear are shocks the front has struts. Rears shocks are a snap to change. Front struts should only be changed if you have the proper tools and knowledge as it can be dangerous.
had Midas do mine 273.00 you can do it yourself and save a bunch, the good shocks for a p71 shouldn't cost any more than $65.00 for the pair for the rear.
I just don't. Take it to shop.
You best and easiest way of doing this is to replace your OEM shocks with air shocks, unless it has struts in the rear.
To change the rear shocks on a 1999 Toyota 4Runner the rear of the vehicle must be lifted with the wheels removed. Find the shock mounts and remove those nuts as well as the lower fork hardware. Each shock will slide out in whole assemblies.
Yes it should have front struts and rear shocks.
