Making A minecraft server can be simple and easy if done correctly:
First, download Hamachi
Once you've downloaded Hamachi click "network" and make a new network. (make a password if you don't want random people coming into your server by left-clicking your network)
Download "Minecraft_server.exe"
Then make a new folder on your desktop and drag "Minecraft_server.exe" into it then open it. Click on the one titled "Server" with "PROPERTIES file" underneath or beside it since there is two files titled "Server" Open this up with the notepad. it should look a little something like this:
allow-nether=true
level-name= [enter what you want it to be called]
enable-query=false
allow-flight=false
server-port=
level-type=DEFAULT
enable-rcon=false
level-seed=
server-ip=[put the numbers located in hamachi in the upper-left corner ex. 1.111.111.111]
max-build-height=256
spawn-npcs=true
white-list=false
spawn-animals=true
online-mode=true
pvp=true
difficulty=1
gamemode=0
max-players=20[can change]
spawn-monsters=true
view-distance=10
generate-structures=true
motd=A Minecraft Server[can change]
(was changed in order for me to keep my server griefer free) Anything I didn't put in brackets DON'T CHANGE!!
Then click "file" and "save"
Click on "Minecraft_Server" when finished and wait for it to load.
Then open up Minecraft then type in your server I.P.

enable-query=false
allow-flight=false

REMEMBER: If you want to let others join, they HAVE to have Hamachi in order for the server to work. Get them to join, then go mine!Minecraft has it for free.
Go to minecraft.net and click on the download link (it says, Download it here) and download the multiplayer server yourself for free. Make sure you download the server for the OS your using. Use the .exe for Windows and .jar is for Mac and Linux.
If you go to the "minecraft WiKi" it will give you all the information you need to set one up. Unless you have a very fast broadband service you will only be able to have 3 or 4 friends play comfortably, no lag, etc.
The only thing you have to do is to keep BOTH the gameand the server the same version or no one will be able to connect. After every Minecraft update you will also have to download the updated server. The same with any mods you use, after every Minecraft update most mods need to be updated also. It can take days to weeks for some to update so you will have to be patient.
If your wanting to play multiplayer in your house, as in you and your family want to play together, you don't need the server, all you need to do is set the single player map your using to "Open To LAN" in the game menu and every one in your house can join your map. It's accessible in the Multiplayer menu.
As long as you have a legit, paid version of Minecraft, joining and hosting a server is 100% free.
You need to have a upgraded account to have a Minecraft Server running on 000webhost.
