With the door panel off, remove the speaker, the connection will be right behind there.
In the 2001 model it is located in the engine compartment on the back side near the cowl on the passenger's side. It is behind a cover held on with two nuts. It has an electrical connection going to it. Remove the connection first then remove the nuts. I hope this helps you.
There is a collision switch for the fuel pump located under the dash on the passenger side bye your feet may have to remove some of the carpet. the electrical connection is on the bottom and the reset button is on the top!

If your Explorer has ac, you have to remove the passenger side front wheel and then the wheel well flap. The job of replacing the spark plugs will then be much easier. Sounds like a lot of trouble, but well worth it.

I think the easiest way is to carefully unplug the wiring connection to the fuel pump inertia switch that is in the right front passenger footwell by the kick panel . That way the electrical circuit to the fuel pump is " broken " and no power gets to the electric fuel pump
