If you exercise 3-4 days a week, your lung capacity grows allowing you to exercise for longer periods of time. When you do an aerobic exercise, your heart and lungs work harder to get more oxygen around the body. Your lungs take oxygen in and then pass it on to your heart which then passes the oxygen onto your blood vessels to circulate the oxygen around the body. The oxygen is usually taken to the muscles in the limbs (Arms and Legs) to help keep them moving.

Well, especially people with lung conditions like Asthma and emphysema, it makes the lungs much stronger. Your breathing may start to become more healthy, and you will be able to run for a longer period of time, without puffing out.

Physical activity requires oxygenated blood to get delivered to the muscles working, like the legs when someone is running. This means the lungs have to take in more oxygen, and breathe harder, to adequately supply these muscles. The lungs also have to work harder to transfer the oxygen to the bloodstream. Physcial activity strengthens the lungs.
