WW1 pioneered aircraft, submarines, flamethrowers, personal armor (helmets and vests), chemical warfare (basically outlawed by world treaties), tanks, and small arms. WW2 used those refined & improved aircraft, submarines, flamethrowers, personal armor, tanks, and small arms. Post WW2 equipment/weapons as described above, are still being refined/improved for current military operations; however, the only difference now, is that all of these weapons are only used for limited wars. Whereas before (1945) they represented and were the "life and death" of nations...fighting total wars. Today, under the dangers (threat) of nuclear weapons, those WW1 & WW2 weapons (and equipment) are no longer matters of "life and death" for the survival of modern industrialized countries; atomic weapons are.
