Argon has eight valence electrons. In a dot diagram there are eight dots located around an element in the cardinal directions. two dots to be in place of every direction packed tightly as if to make a box around the element. Another way of stating it is that two dots are at zero degrees, two at ninety, two at 180 degrees and two more at 270 degrees on the cartesian plane.
