Physically accommodating the size and number of conductors in the stator of an alternator typically limits it output line voltage to 30 kV. In the UK, for example, alternators' line voltage output are typically either 11 kV or 25 kV.

So, assuming your (three-phase) alternator has a terminal line voltage of 11 kV, then a 10 MVA alternator should be able to deliver a line current of:

line current = (rated apparent power) / (1.732 x rated line voltage) = 10 000 000 / 1.732 x 11 000

= 525 A

What is the difference between a DC motor and a generator in terms of EMF?

During the operation of a DC motor, EMF is created across its terminals using an external source. Whereas, in a DC generator EMF is created across its terminal based on principle of dynamically induced EMF. So talking in terms of EMF, in DC motor EMF is consumed by the motor coil and utilized to rotate the axle. On the other hand, in DC generator EMF developed across coil is transfered to a load or a battery and consumed by them.

What does an increase in field strength in a dc generator causes a?

increased Back emf

What will happen if generator is overexcited?

if a generator is overexcited it is producing a large amount of reactive power which requires an increase in the alternator emf. To produce this emf, the rotor currents must increase resulting in extreme ohmic rotor losses.

What is the relationship between the speed of a generator and its voltage and the torque on the generator shaft and the current produced by the generator?

emf produced by generator(E)=no. of turns in coil*rate of change of magnetic flux

How does a generator use electromagnetic induction?

There is a motor in a generator which carries out this electromagnetic induction,as we switch on the generator the magnetic field lines between that motor get cuts off by the rotating coil which cause change in flux and change in flux cause induced emf,cue to emf at different points of coil cause current to get flow and then generator will get on.

Why a dc generator you unable to generate emf even its armature is rotating?

bad connection

What is principle of a DC generator?

DC generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. when a conductor move in a megnetic field in such a way conductors cuts across a megnetic flux of lines and emf produces in a generator and it is defined by faradays law of electromegnetic induntion :emf causes current to flow if the conductor circuit is closed.

Explain how the induction motor gets loaded when the DC generator is loaded?

when the dc generator is loaded current will be drawn from it, therefore a back emf Will be generated, which opposes the motion of a generator, and hence, that opposition loads the three phase generator

Which devices has a source of emf inside it?

Electro Motive Force, is the potential to make electricity.A battery is a source of EMF and so is an electrical generator, or any moving magnetic field around a conductor.A solar cell is also a source of EMF.

Does a magnetic field produce electricity?

ANSWER yes. When it moves it induces EMF in metals, laser beams, gravity field and other magnetic fields. Move as in expand and contract or as in moving the EMF generator.

Why you perform open circuit characteristics of a dc shunt generator?

What is the working principle of a Synchronous Generator?

synchronous generator is similar to the principle of laws of electro magnetic induction that is "whenever the magnetic flux linking in a conductor that time emf is induced at the ends of the conductor "
