The Volturi come to see Bella and Edward's child Renesmee, because they believe that The Cullens have broken the rules by 'turning' the child into a vampire, they have no idea she was born. So when they arrive they explain the situation and explain that she has a heartbeat and that she has body heat and can grow, and they Renesmee shows them with her gift. Then the Volturi leave saying they trust Renesmee to keep the secret because of the obvious maturity of her mind, but if she reveals the secret to humans they the consaquence is the same.
